It all started with a small party at the basement of Café de Plak, a gay friendly bar located near the city centre of Nijmegen. Not much later a second party followed. Both were highly successful and made the organisation look for larger venue. This location was found at the Paraplufabriek in Nijmegen. This underground location could hold up to 400 partypeople. At that time the popularity of Club Extravaganza increased to very high levels. Nian would come on the first day of New Year to devour livestock, crops, and even villagers, especially children. To protect themselves, the villagers would put food in front of their doors at the beginning of every year. It was believed that after the Nian ate the food they prepared, it wouldn’t attack any more people.
